Mailsmith FAQ: Address Book
How can I automatically add addresses to my address book when I send emails?
Created: 2002-04-21 Modified: 2002-04-21 Version: 1.5 By: Christian Smith
Christian Smith:

I wrote this a couple of days after we shipped Mailsmith 1.5 ;-)

You write a filter, attach it to your outgoing mailbox, set the filter to match "if sent is equal to true" and to run the script as its action.

The script looks at all the recipients, compares them against the current address book and adds any which are not already present.

Why are there only three fields for each address?

If I have understood the emails the people at BBSW have written previously they settled for a simpler address book in the first releases concentrating their efforts on implementing sending/receiving email face_happy. However, they have also said that the framework for adding new functionality is there, making it relative easy (NOTE: I didn't write "easy") to add that for later releases. BBSW have also said that they have no intention to add a contact manager of Mailsmith, but they hope to make it easy for you to let your contact manager work together with Mailsmith.

Is there a script that let me add address directly from my emails?

Well, yes but I think it's a better idea to use the contextual menu available from versions 1.1. Just select the address you want to add, hold down the control key, click the mouse and choose "Add to Address Book" from the popup.
